Reasor.com break-in

27 December 2002

On Thursday 26-Dec-2002 the server running reasor.com was compromised, causing some down time while the infected files were removed and software packages updated to hopefully close the vulnerability.

There were several files left behind including the t0rn rootkit and mIRKfORCE.
The creator of t0rn was arrested in September by Scotland Yard. See the Businessweek article from 25-Sep-2002.

The most likely cause(s) seem to be exploitation of vulnerabilities in rpc.statd or wu-ftp. See CERT® Incident Note IN-2000-10

Friday the 13th

22 December 2002

Most people fear Friday the 13th, but this year it was a day to celebrate. Our son, Andrew Reasor took his first steps. He was inspired by our cat Scully. He lost his fear of falling down and took off after her. We were able to have a repeat performance later that evening when we coaxed him with a ball. Now he wants to walk all over the place! Way to go Andrew!

‘Early Settlers’ Books Available from LCHGS

12 December 2002

I just received my copy of ‘Early Settlers of Lee County, Virginia and Adjacent Counties’ Volume I and II. I had been looking to buy a copy for many years. These newly published copies are available from Lee County Historical and Genealogical Society for $149.95 plus $7.00 postage, tax, and handling. I put in a pre-publication order as soon as I heard they would be printed.

Here is a link to the details for ordering.

In case you have never heard of these books, they are one of the best sources for Reasor family information as well as any family originating in Lee County.

Finding a copy of Early Settlers Vol. II at the New York Public Library several years ago was great. I spent some time and money making photocopies of many pages. I was able to add many names and dates to my Family tree.

Having my own copy of both of these volumes is shure to add greatly to my tree.

My thanks go to the Book Committee of the Lee County Historical and Genealogical Society for these wonderful books.
