Dr. Daniel S. Reasor Memorial Bridge Dedicated

Saturday, September 11, 2004, the Lee County Board of Supervisors and the Virginia Department of Transportation hosted a bridge naming ceremony in the Dryden area.

The ceremony began at 11 a.m. on the east end of the new Highway 58A bridge over the Powell River in Dryden.

The bridge was dedicated as the “Dr. Daniel S. Reasor Memorial Bridge”.

Daniel Sheffey Reasor was a native of Lee County, born on August 28, 1838 to Peter and Rebecca (Ely) Reasor of the Turkey Cove Community.

On Sept 9, 1861, at the age of twenty three, Mr. Reasor answered the call of his country by enlisting in the 21st Virginia Infantry which evolved into the 64th Virginia Mounted Infantry, attaining the rank of Lieutenant.

Lt. Reasor was taken prisoner of war on September 9, 1863 at Cumberland Gap and trained as a physician while serving 18 months in Johnson’s Island Prison at Sandusky Ohio.

Upon his return to Lee County, he served his community as a physician, farmer and church leader at Deep Springs Baptist Church.

Dr. Reasor departed this life on February 23, 1912 at the age of seventy three.

The cereomny commemorating his life was attended by several decendants including great grandson George E. Reasor of Windham, NH.

My grandfather was Daniel Franklin Reasor, my great grandfather was James Henderson Reasor, my great great Grandfather was Daniel Franklin Reasor brn July 23,1782-the father of Peter Reasor the father of Daniel Sheffy Reasor, my great great great Grandfather was Peter Reasor brn in 1750.
